Eat Pray and Love with the Hotties on the 16th

Hello Hotties!

I thought it would be fun to have everyone bring something to eat or drink from one of the countries in the book; Italy, India, or Indonesia. (I think Italy might be the easier one? oh dear)

If you'd like to dress the part, that would be so fun too.

Anyway...I hope you have had a chance to read the book; it is lovely. It is a bit hard to get into at first, but stay with it.

Let's say 8pm. I have a meeting in the city that day so I'll be rushing home so please be patient with the "hosting" from me this month. :) I'll do my best in a flash.

I also have a fun "craft" I'd like to do for the pray part if you are up to it.
At my church, we recently made meditation beads. (bracelet) If you think this would be fun to do, instead of a game after the discussion, we could do this. I would then give instruction of the kind of beads to bring and I'll have the other supplies. OR, I could ask everyone to give 5 bucks to the cause and I could go buy a variety of beads for us to use. It takes about an hour. Its not for everyone so we can take a vote and let that be our guide.

Lisa S. is joining us this month with a friend of hers; they both read the book and are excited to join the for our May discussion. :)

Let me know by Tuesday if you will make it and your thougths on the beads. :)

Hello Hotties!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to remind you about the meeting on Friday, March 14. It is at my (Lisa's) house and I was thinking of an 8 o'clock start time? My kids have TKD testing that night, so a little bit later would work better for me this month.

Okay...so that's the deal...3/14 @ 8 pm, be there or be square.

The book this month is Quaker Summer, and I am reading it now. I was really unsure about it, but it is a good book!

I am really sorry that it was so hard to get. I know Borders and Barnes and Noble had to special order it. I actually ended up ordering it from Amazon. I know for next time to check the availability of a book before I pick it!

I was thinking after our serious and lengthy book discussion we could play a game. Col, could you please bring Catchphrase? I had a blast the last time we played that!

Don't bring a thing...unless of course you are a rum snob. Then BYOR, Plo.

Hope you can all make it, let me know!

See you Friday.

Would Anyone Object?

Would anyone object to me changing my book to this? I am patiently waiting for my copy of Quaker Summer to come in, and got hooked on this in the meantime. I will admit that it is a bit longer than The Good Earth, but it is impossible to put down. If anyone objects, that would be fine with me...we can still read my original pick.
PS: I can't find Quaker Summer anywhere, and had to special order it...does anyone have a copy they are finished with? LOVE TO YOU ALL!!!

Happy Valentine's Day

Friendship is a blessing it's the best you have to share,

The talents and the wisdom, the capacity to care...
It's being there to lend support, whatever needs arise,

It's making sure that others know they're special in your eyes...
Friendship is a blessing, and, to all who have a friend,

It's one of the most precious gifts that life could ever send.

Have a great day!

XOXO

It's February!

Hello Ladies!

Posted by Julie :)

Reminder that the first book club of the year is coming up at Connie's!

If you have not picked up a copy there is still time and a new copy back at the library- mine- which sadly I had for over a week before I realized their is just no way I will read it in time...SORRY Connie!!....

So better to get it back to the library for someone else to read :)

Please let Connie know if you will make it- she will send an email about the time etc.

New book club members?????

For anyone who has a friend who wants to join book club, please send me their info
Name, B-day and email address
so I can get them added to the site info etc
so they can start checking the
site
so they can get or reserve a copy of
The Pillars of the Earth

because really, April is just a few weeks away
and 1026 pages is not light reading.
..it is heavy...

although the paperback version slims that
page total to 976
which is more like light reading...

But don't be intimidated by this monster book-
it is said to be a fantastic book and everyone I have come across that has read it loved it!

Not as much as they loved say....

The Sound and the Fury....

but pretty darn close!!!

Thanks to Kristen , who is always challening us

to step outside our comfort zone

in reading and who is hosting this particular book via satelite from Texas!
Yee Haw!
I had to post this picture since it one of many great pictures of Kristen - and we miss her smiling face :)

XOXO

Greetings Girls!

Just wanted to update everyone on Kristen's selection for April. Colleen, you will be thrilled to learn that Kristen's pick is:

"The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett.

It looks like you two great minds think alike!
Julie and I will have to read the cliff notes! Or start the book now, literally!
It did get 693 5-star reviews on Amazon, so I will try to keep an open mind. During all 973 pages.
Okay, back to my sick bed for me, but I was so glad to meet up with you all, in person finally, on Friday.
You were missed, Kristen! Thank you for the wonderful email! As soon as I am feeling better I will sit down and put something coherent together to send back to you!
See you all in February!
Lisa

The year is in motion!

Thanks for those who could make it Friday!

As you can see if you look around the page, we have decided on some books and dates so please check it out.

For those who have not chosen a book, let us know and we will update the Shelfari book shelf!

This Friday the 11th!

Looking for a Host or a BAR!

We need a host for this Friday as poor Julie is a slave to her job right now. Anyone want to host, if not, lets just meet at a local place that has alcohol, appetizers, and a place for us to chat about this years books. Let me know by leaving your comment here or by emailing me. Remember Julie sent everyone our email and password. I will re-send those in another email.

Ps. I would host but I am in the city on Friday and I just don't want to rush back and try and pull it together. (my house is not a safe place) :)

Books We've Read (or not) :)

Hi Ladies,
I've created a shelfari account for us to "log" all of our books (shows the covers too); see below and to the left. I tried to add a group to my shelfari but it wouldn't let me post to our blog so I had to create a new user as the "huntley hotties" and then I posted all of the books that we've read over the last two years. I know some of you haven't read all of these and I still have a few to read myself; scroll through the shelf, pick out something you haven't read before, and enjoy. Once we pick our selections on the 11th, I will add to shelfari and post them to our blog! Thanks again, Julie!

Remember...Julie's house on the 11th. Bring your selection (or two).

~ Happy Reading,
Col
